A 70-year-old woman, Pratima Bera, was found dead inside her residence in Shyamnagar Pirtala, Ward No. 23 of Jagaddal Assembly constituency. She lived alone in the house. On Monday, local residents found her body and alerted authorities. Initial signs indicated strangulation, and police began investigation on the spot.
Biplab Sarkar, a man living in the same locality, has been accused of entering the house and attacking the elderly woman. According to residents, he allegedly targeted her when she was alone. Preliminary information suggests there was physical confrontation before her death. Police have detained Biplab and registered a murder case.
Local councillor and police officials reached the scene after being informed. The incident in a densely populated area triggered anger among residents, who demanded strict punishment for the accused. The body was sent for post-mortem, and forensic teams examined the crime scene. Investigation is ongoing.
